A-GEN-C

Publishing interactive worlds.

A-GEN-C commissions, publishes, archives and circulates visual novels, playable cinema, interactive literature and non-traditional animation. Rather than functioning as a conventional gallery, A-GEN-C develops long-term cultural infrastructure for emerging artistic forms — creating ways for interactive artworks to be editioned, collected, distributed and experienced beyond the exhibit.

Made from paper and digital technologies, these interactive novels bring histories, possible futures and dreams into the present. They locate the human within multiple temporalities at once. The interactive novel becomes a space/time-travel tool, allowing pasts, possible futures and imagined worlds to be embodied in the present.

This Art & Technology presentation brings together interactive graphic novels by Anna Bunting-Branch, Danielle Brathwaite-Shirley and Kinnari Saraiya, accompanied by bespoke ceramic controllers created by Aliyah Hussain.

FOUR NEW INTERACTIVE COMMISSIONS

Games · Visual Novels · Interactive Graphic Novels · Ceramic Controllers

Aliyah Hussain, Botanical Interface Vessels, 2026

Aliyah Hussain

Botanical Interface Vessels (2026)

Aliyah’s Botanical Interface Vessels (2026) are handheld ceramic controllers carrying histories of colonial extraction, extinction and ancestral memory. Their wildflower-ash glazes are read as colour codes by computer vision and symbolically through human touch, becoming physical interfaces between bodies and digital worlds.

Danielle Brathwaite-Shirley, The Eyes Under the Sky, 2026

Danielle Brathwaite-Shirley

The Eyes Under the Sky (2026)

Danielle Brathwaite-Shirley creates immersive digital works centring Black Trans experiences. The Eyes Under the Sky (2026), the first in a series of interactive graphic novels, follows lovers Anansi and Loa through a futuristic desert city where weather-controlling machines are weaponised against the worshipping inhabitants.

Anna Bunting-Branch, Dose Makes the Poison, 2025

Anna Bunting-Branch

Dose Makes the Poison (2025)

Anna often merges traditional and digital media to explore feminist science fiction. Dose Makes the Poison (2025) reimagines Silphium, a highly prized medicinal plant from ancient Cyrene often described as the first victim of economic extinction, as a survivor who persists through memory, myth and transformation.

Kinnari Saraiya, In the Eye of a Dream, 2026

Kinnari Saraiya

In the Eye of a Dream (2026)

Kinnari explores cultural identity and globalisation through film, games, performance and tech. In the Eye of a Dream (2026) is an artist’s book combining film, NFC-embedded embroidery and archival materials, transforming a colonial archive of dreams into an exploration of many worlds and the pluriverse.
